Adrenal glands are two endocrine glands located at the back abdominal cavity (retroperitoneum) just above the kidneys. They produce a number of important hormones.
Conditions of Adrenal gland are detected in number of ways:
– Enlarged gland/nodule unexpectedly found in a radiological test of the abdomen (Incidentaloma)
– Investigation for cause of difficult to control high blood pressure and other clinical conditions such as Conn’s syndrome, Cushing’s syndrome, Pheochromocytoma
– Rarely, a large adrenal tumour causing abdominal symptoms such as pain
Surgery is required in the adrenal gland if a nodule is suspicious of a cancer or there is evidence of over production of hormones.
